Claude Cowork 101
A Workshop for Business Users

Anthropic’s Claude can now take on whole tasks from any conversation, on the web, in the desktop app, and on a phone. It drafts and edits documents, builds spreadsheets and slide decks, searches the web, works with the apps you have connected, and completes multi-step tasks with light supervision. Until recently, this needed a separate product, Claude Cowork; Anthropic has now merged Cowork into the ordinary chat, so there is no mode to choose. In this half-day workshop, Donald Farmer will introduce this way of working to new users and show how to get dependable work from Claude. 

Donald will demonstrate Claude live throughout the class. You will watch it draft a document, gather and summarize research, analyze a data set, and build a reusable workflow that runs again on new material. After each demonstration, Donald will explain how he framed the task; he will show what he stated, what he left to the agent, and how he checked the output. 

You will leave knowing what Claude does well as an agent, what it cannot do reliably, and how to apply it to your own everyday tasks. 

You Will Learn:

  • How Claude decides between a quick answer and a longer task, and what changed when Claude Cowork merged into chat 

  • How Claude reads, drafts, and edits documents, spreadsheets, and presentations, and returns them as files you can edit 

  • How Claude uses the browser and your connected apps to gather and check information 

  • How to frame a task so that Claude returns useful work on the first attempt 

  • How to direct Claude through research, data analysis, and drafting jobs 

  • How to build reusable workflows with skills and scheduled tasks that you and your colleagues can run repeatedly 

  • How Claude can fail, how the permission setting controls what it does without asking, and how to review its output before you rely on it

Prerequisites:

None. The workshop assumes no programming knowledge and no prior experience with Claude. 

Laptop Setup:

Students do not need a laptop for this course. Donald demonstrates everything live; attendees can follow the whole session without a device. 
 

To apply what they have learned after the course, students will require: 

  • A paid Claude plan. The merged experience is rolling out in stages, starting with Pro and Max; Team and Enterprise accounts will follow. 

  • Access to Claude on the web, in the desktop app, or on a phone. Tasks that use local files, the built-in browser, or computer use need the Claude Desktop app on a Windows PC or Mac.
