Always On: The Promises and Perils of the Streaming Data Revolution and Its Influence on Performance Management

Streaming data—time-series, event-oriented data emitted by hundreds or thousands of devices in a network, often at subsecond rates—represents a unique challenge for BI professionals. This sort of data often requires complex correlation and interpretation performed by computation logic prior to human interpretation, and often demands immediate action. Implementation of true programmatic analytics will require us to move beyond the simple query-and-report paradigm in which we find ourselves today, and offer the opportunity to embed BI into the center of an organization’s operational infrastructure.

Using a range of examples from financial services, energy, agriculture, telematics, logistics, and manufacturing environments, this keynote will provide an overview of the streaming data revolution and practical guidelines for designing, implementing, and operating large, always-on BI environments fed by streaming data sources.

Bringing Business Performance to the Next Level through Business Performance Management and BI Alignment

For years, company leaders and managers have sought to predict, plan, and control company performance—utilizing everything from industrial engineering to industrial psychology—to inform and influence how managers go about the central task of achieving targeted performance. More recently, companies have begun to adopt business performance management (BPM) and BI to drive performance and profits.

How well are your BI and BPM programs working in your organization? If you’ve coordinated efforts between the two programs, chances are they’re working much better than if you hadn’t. In fact, research shows that you would be three times as likely to achieve major business performance improvements as companies that have not coordinated BI and BPM programs. In this keynote, Nancy will explore the performance improvements that organizations can achieve with coordinated programs, as well as major pitfalls to avoid by coordinating efforts.

You Will Learn:
  • Why BI and BPM coordination pays off
  • How companies successfully coordinate BI and BPM
  • How to overcome BI and BPM coordination challenges
