Prerequisite: This course assumes completion of Data Warehousing Concepts and Principles and Business Intelligence Fundamentals, as well as experience with BI programs.
Steve Dine
There is a great deal of confusion over the definition of cloud computing and its benefits to organizations. Many analysts even feel that it has yet to live up to the hype. However, few argue about the cloud’s potential to change the way computing resources are delivered. In this course, we not only discuss the different definitions of the cloud, but also provide tangibility with a step-by-step demonstration of setting up a server instance in the cloud. We also discuss the potential benefits and challenges of architecting BI solutions in an external, virtual computing architecture, presenting different options from vendors as well as various strategies to help organizations leverage utility computing in their BI programs.
In the afternoon, Lenin Gali, director of business intelligence for ShareThis, will present an in-depth case study of his experiences with implementing and managing a terabyte-sized data warehouse in the cloud. He will discuss the architecture that has been implemented and the technologies used to process large volumes of data. Lenin will also share lessons learned and the best practices and pitfalls of business intelligence in the cloud.
