It's been said that a data model is the heart and soul of a data warehousing environment. It organizes information for ready access by decision makers and query tools. For 15 years, we've come to know and love stars, snowflakes, and third normal form schemas, as well as multidimensional cubes, and they have served us reasonably well. But as the pace of business accelerates, data volumes explode, and new technologies and approaches emerge, many are beginning to question the sanctity of our data warehousing models. Critics charge that they are too slow to build, impossible to change, and don't map well to business questions. This panel of experts will debate whether our existing models need a face-lift or are sufficient to carry our data warehousing programs through the next decade.
