W6A DIY BI: Self-Service Comes to Business IntelligenceUPDATED!

November 2nd, 2011

8:00 am - 11:15 am

Prerequisite: This course assumes a basic knowledge of BI and data warehousing.

As the velocity of business increases, business users are less willing to wait for the IT department to create custom reports and analytics. Many users now expect to be able to interact with information and create their own views of data to address pressing business issues. At the same time, BI teams would like to off-load report and analytics creation duties to users and focus on more value-added activities.

Fortunately, a new crop of self-service BI tools promises to empower users while liberating the BI team from ad hoc reporting tasks. To work, these tools must be easier to use than previous generations of BI tools, and give the BI team a measure of control over the semantic representation and use of back-end systems and oversight of the creation of standardized reports and dashboards for decision making.

You Will Learn

  • Business drivers for self-service BI
  • Tools, techniques, and technologies that leading-edge BI teams are deploying to improve users’ ability to create ad hoc reports and analytics
  • Governance practices that ensure self-service BI doesn’t degenerate into report chaos
  • The benefits of a self-service BI environment

Geared To

  • IT technical staff and managers; BI and data warehousing specialists who are interested in hearing about the latest developments in operational BI and how they can be used for business benefit
